Rittal - Hygienic Design

International Food Standard - IFS

Supplier audits have been an inherent part of cooperation in commerce and industry for years. Stronger customer requirements, increasing danger of claims for damages and globalisation of commodity flows require a uniform quality standard.
The development of the new IFS, version 5 (August 2007) is a joint project of the three retail associations in Germany, France and Italy for auditing the manufacturers of food and hygiene. The new requirements of IFS are as follows:

  • Company responsibility
  • Quality management system
  • Resources management
  • Production process
  • Measurements, analysis, improvements

  • RITTAL Hygienic Design helps to better fulfil the essential criteria in the production process:

  • Plant design and procedures (4.6.3)
  • Climate control (4.6.4.8)
  • Product safety and hygiene (4.7)
  • Maintenance and repair (4.13)
  • Plant and equipment (4.14)

  • IFS defines 10 requirements as knock-out criteria. In charge of company management existing plants are designed more hygienically, the foreign substance management may be improved and during the internal audits, that will take place once a year in all fields, the improvement can be documented and communicated.

RITTAL Hygienic Design not only helps to avoid KO s, but also saves time during cleaning and disinfection, i.e. shutdown time is reduced and productivity is increased.
