CE marking for empty RITTAL enclosures

With regard to CE marking, empty enclosures are assigned to the scope of a valid EU directive, which then governs the marking requirements, here namely the

Low-Voltage Directive

2006/95/EG

Based on type testing to DIN EN 62208 (VDE 0660-511):2005-04

Further relevant directives:

Machinery Directive

2006/42/EG

EMC Directive

2004/108/EG

For various reasons, Rittal has in the past refrained from attaching a CE mark to its empty enclosures, despite the thorough testing to DIN EN 62208 which is also documented in the product documentation and other approvals.

Marking is now to be introduced successively, in the context of modifications to the rating plates, for all enclosures which are to be used as type-tested empty enclosures to DIN EN 62208 for low-voltage switchgear to DIN EN 60439-1. If required, declarations of conformity can also be made available before the final marking of the products, as the corresponding tests were already performed in the past.

As the standard taken as the basis for marking is not applicable for enclosures covered by specific product standards (e.g. electronics enclosures to IEC 60297 or enclosures for IT systems), it is currently only the typical "industrial enclosures" for low-voltage switchgear which will be marked.
