When cost efficiency is decisive

ISAB Klitschmar GmbH has relied on the impressive advantages of the CS New Basic enclosure from Rittal for many years.

2012-05-07. Regardless of whether it’s for the processing of drinking water, waste water treatment or measurement of the ground water level – along with rugged outdoor enclosure technology, cost-efficient solutions are also required for customised manufacturing of switchgear in environmental technology. Rittal's CS New Basic enclosures, made of aluminium, now offer clear advantages over conventional plastic enclosures: more flexibility in the manufacturing of switchgear and better protection against whether influences. The switchgear manufacturer ISAB Klitschmar GmbH has been successfully using these advantages for years in the outfitting of pumping stations.

The company based in Wiedemar-Klitschmar (Saxony, Germany) supplies switchgear either in large-scale production or tailored to individual customer requirements as special designs. ISAB Klitschmar GmbH is above all specialised in control engineering for water and waste water. The solutions produced for pump stations and sewage treatment plants range from simple to highly complex. Rittal supplies the manufactured-to-order outdoor enclosures for this from its CS New Basic series, along with accessory components for interior installation such as compact enclosures, heaters, thermostats and enclosure lights.

In the past, ISAB exclusively used glass-fibre-reinforced enclosures. Since 2009, however, the company has increasingly changed over to aluminium enclosures. This highly robust material is particularly convincing for outdoor use. “Aluminium withstands external conditions much better than glass fibre – all but permanently. That is above all due to the resistance of the material to UV radiation,” says Karsten Scharte, the General Manager of ISAB. “Another advantage of aluminium is its flexibility. Enclosures can be built in the desired size much more quickly. By contrast, plastic requires the designing of casting moulds, which is protracted and cost-intensive.”

The producer of switchgear from Saxony, which is also active beyond Germany’s borders, decided to partner with Rittal for logistical reasons as well. The standard ISAB cabinet, found in around 80 percent of all pump stations, is in stock at the Rittal sales and logistics centre in Gera and is quickly available.

The single-wall outdoor enclosure is made of aluminium (AlMg3) and painted in RAL 7035 (powder-coated). In addition, the CS New Basic enclosure can also include protection class IP55 and NEMA 3R through the bottom plates offered as accessories. The single-door or two-door enclosure is available in widths of 600/800/1,200 mm, heights of 800/1,200 mm and depths of 400/500 mm. Concrete bases/plinths, divided gland plates, cable entry plates, mounting plates, 482.6 mm (19") mounting angles, heaters, thermostats and semi-cylinders for the locking system are among the accessories.
