XPAR Vision: IT-supported manufacturing process monitoring
25.04.2019
RAIL.ONE has been developing new solutions and supporting global production locations and customers for more than 120 years. Around 250 employees depend on the IT professionals who operate the in-house data centre without any interruptions.
Peter Both, Head of IT at RAIL.ONE.
A planned relocation of the company headquarters meant a challenge for the IT organisation because the data centre could not be moved into the new building straight away. Therefore, a solution was needed to operate the IT systems on an initially temporary basis until the final location was ready. Given these requirements, RAIL.ONE evaluated a number of suppliers of container solutions. The contract was finally awarded to Rittal. Once the contract had been awarded, Rittal was able to produce the desired Rittal Data Center Container (RDCC) within a few weeks with all the components needed for IT operation.
The container-solution employs highly efficient free cooling technology for climate control. This cuts costs by up to 40 percent over conventional systems. Redundant cooling 20 kW systems were installed for RAIL.ONE in accordance with the requirements. Cold aisle containment was implemented for the Rittal TS IT rack that was installed.
The Rittal container was supplied with a fully pre-installed power distribution system. This way, the full power supply of the container is implemented, including a possible supply emergency power via a UPS system. Besides this, the container with the Rittal DET-AC solution includes an automatic fire detection and extinguishing system. Finally, all the operating parameters are monitored by the Rittal CMC III system.
Equipped with this infrastructure, RAIL.ONE IT’s relocation finally took place and it ran smoothly thanks to the good preparation. Today, the new data centre is working unnoticed and in fail-safe mode on the roof of the company building. RAIL.ONE’s IT experts always have their data centre fully under control by monitoring all the operating parameters in detail, and can intervene in good time before any critical values are reached.
