Selters Association of Municipalities in Westerwald incorporates 21 municipalities that are home to around 16,800 people. The IT infrastructure, which supported all the processes at the association and those of the municipal public utility undertakings for water/wastewater, was housed in a separate IT room, but could no longer meet demands in terms of data security and high availability.

Thanks to Rittal Micro Data Center Level E, the association’s servers are now securely protected from physical hazards such as fire and unauthorised access.
A dedicated security room would have been too big for the number of servers the association runs. However, during a customer event, the IT officers came across Rittal Micro Data Centre Level E and recognised it as the ideal security solution for their needs. The Data Centre is an enclosure system that creates a fully fledged security area around a server rack, providing a secure space for IT hardware on 42 or 47 height units.
This “IT strongbox” also offers system-tested safety and a high level of protection. For example, it exhibits fire resistance to DIN 4102 (F90) for more than 90 minutes. During a fire, the interior temperature of the Micro Data Centre increases by no more than 50 Kelvin in the first 30 minutes, while relative air humidity remains below 85 percent. What’s more, the data centre is also resistant to dust, smoke and powerful water jets and features optional burglar resistance up to Class 4, which has been tested to DIN V ENV 1627.
“We have been using the Rittal solution for almost a year now. The Micro Data Centre Level E satisfies our requirements for security and availability,” says Köth. “We can pass this confidence on to the residents of our municipalities with a clear conscience, as we know their data is safe.”
