The small enclosure: Secure, practical housing for your electronics.
Essentially, the purpose of enclosures is to organise and protect the electrical components inside, such as terminals, from external influences. The same is true of small enclosures. Despite their diminutive size, small enclosures are precisely designed and manufactured from high-quality materials to withstand adverse environmental conditions. What’s more, small enclosures may be modified to meet individual requirements, for example with quick-release fasteners or side panels for easier earthing. Read here to find out more about the benefits of small enclosures.
Features and benefits of small enclosures
Easier handling of modular enclosures
Small enclosures from Rittal, sometimes called modular or universal enclosures, are impressively easy to handle. The wide door opening angle or 180 degree door hinges allow the doors to be opened fully for easier access to the enclosure interior and simpler fitting and replacement of electrical components. Support rails, mounting plates and mounting claws secured to the front or rear panel of the enclosure help you to organise components inside the enclosure.
Safety and earthing with universal enclosures:
Depending on the type of small enclosure – bus enclosure, E box or terminal box – there are a variety of locks available to keep it secure: The quick-release fastener with Torx insert is simple to attach and seals the enclosure as you lock it so that nothing can penetrate. The cam lock with double-bit insert likewise ensures reliable locking and can be incorporated into custom locking systems. The latter even supports tool-free fitting. For even greater security, side panels with PE conductor connection may fitted for fast, simple earthing, and even added retrospectively.
Simple mounting of electronic enclosures
Small enclosures are usually hung on the wall using a wall bracket. Our small enclosures come with rear panel embossings and punch marks for fitting the wall bracket, so wall-mounting is a breeze. We are, of course, happy to assist you at any time with the assembly, installation and commissioning of your small enclosure.
Materials and application areas for small enclosures
Small enclosures made from metal (aluminium, sheet steel and stainless steel) or plastic (polycarbonate)
Our small enclosures can be manufactured from a variety of materials. You select the most suitable material depending on your individual requirements and where the enclosure will be used. Small enclosures in sheet steel or stainless steel are ideal for enclosed spaces. One benefit of a stainless steel enclosure is that it is almost entirely rust-proof. For use outdoors, small enclosures made from fibreglass-reinforced plastic such as polycarbonate or cast aluminium are ideal, as they also offer protection against corrosion. We will be happy to assist and advise you when choosing the most suitable material for your small enclosure.
