Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU

Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU

With effect from 20 April 2016, the new Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU will replace the predecessor Directive 2006/95/EC. The LVD applies to electrical equipment between 50 and 1000 V AC or 75 and 1500 V DC.

The LVD aims to ensure a high level of protection of health and safety of persons, domestic and farm animals, and property.

Controlgear and switchgear may also fall under this EU directive, which means that the new LVD is also relevant for the manufacturers of such equipment.

Further information can be found in our brochure "The New Low Voltage Directive" .

Using harmonised standards when manufacturing low-voltage controlgear and switchgear, such as EN 1439 or EN 60204, is an easy way of declaring conformity with the Low Voltage Directive. The Rittal modular system makes it very easy to prepare a design certificate to EN 61439, which also satisfies some of the requirements from EN 60204.
